Mella had the opportunity to interview the great Allen Lee Erave, the front man of Saugas band.
The band started off as a string band called Tosega in the 1980s.
As he went on to sign his first music contract, he changed the band’s name to Saugas, the name of his mother’s tribe in Oro Province.
In the new Sugas band he went solo and also included about 3 of his former band members.
During his musical career he had the opportunity to perform with the great Maxi Priest.
The top 3 songs that he always performs is, Mangi Sasawa, Sauga Mei and Sindaun Bagarap.
He is amazed by the fact that his songs still linger on in PNG’s Music Industry.
He also won the Justin Kili award for the song titled Sindaun Bagarap.
Saugas as he is well known by it, made a side note as well that he wanted to say “thank you” to his listeners and the fanbase he grew over the 44 years in the music industry and also thanking the youngsters who make it their business to at least know music from back then and not only today’s latest songs.
With the Iconic Cowboy Cap on his head his legacy in music continues to inspire the new generation.
